795 - Iona,Inisbofin and Inismurray was raided

Ireland
The first raids on Ireland by vikings (probably of west Norwegian origin),The Annals of Ulster tells us " The burning of Rechru by the heathens, and Scí was overwhelmed and laid waste of viking raids". The Monasteries on Inisbofin and Inismurray were attacked.
Scotland
The monastery of Saint Columba on Iona and Lambay, Skye one of the Inner Hebrides and Rathlin Island was raided. scholars believe that Viking incursions into Wales began in this year, suggesting that the Vikings who raided the Church on Recru or Lombay Island had sailed there from a previous attack upon Wales.Fry mentioned that before 796 a group of Norwegians had venturd peacefully in Ireland.Looking for a place to settle.
Map of Faroe Islands
Faroe islands
Vikings drove Irish monks out of the Faroe islands, the monks probably left to live in Iceland, but no permanent viking settlement was made.
Spain
According to Arab sources, Vikings and Basques had fought together against the Arabs outside the town of Astorga in 795, probably to halt the Muslim invasion and for control of the old Roman road "Silver Road" between Bordeaux and Mérida. The possibility to sail right into Guernica, gave Vikings an opportunity to loot and plunder in Spain.

  1. Hi there, long-time reader.

Do you have a source on the Vikings in Astorga during 795? I have looked everywhere and can't find anything.

    Cheers,
